Santo Domingo.-En ocasión de conmemorarse el 116 aniversario del fallecimiento de Eugenio María de Hostos, padre de la educación en América Latina, las comisiones de Ciencias Sociales, Filosofía y Epistemología de la Academia de Ciencias, la Liga Hostosiana, realizaron varias actividades.

Como parte de las actividades, realizaron una ofrenda floral en el Panteón de la Patria, la cual estuvo encabezada por Luis Scheker Ortiz, presidente de la Academia de Ciencias. Una hora más tarde  se dictó la conferencia “Hostos: Meditaciones  sobre el poder y el progreso”,  a cargo de la ministra de Educación Superior Ciencia y Tecnología, Alejandrina German.

En los actos conmemorativos estuvieron presentes Alice Vega, representante del alcalde de Mayagüez y presidente de la Liga Hostosiana, José Guillermo Rodríguez.

Como cada año, la Academia de Ciencias rinde homenaje a Eugenio María de Hostos, considerado como el padre de la educación moderna de la República Dominicana y por ser el pionero en la enseñanza de las ciencias.

Otras de las personalidades  presentes en los actos, José Guerrero, coordinador de la Comisión de Ciencias Sociales de la ACRD; el  vicerrector de Extensión, Antonio Medina Calcaño; la presidenta de la Liga Hostosiana capítulo República Dominicana, Solangel Román; Luisa Navarro,  el director ejecutivo de la Liga Hostosiana, capítulo República Dominicana, Francisco Acosta, el expresidente de la ACRD, Milciades Mejía; Luis Felipe Aquino,  presidente de la Bolsa Turística del Caribe (BTC), entre otras.
